How do we do it? Creating a work of art that not only floats but offers comfort, reliability, incredible design features and stop-dead-in-your-tracks good looks takes a heck of a build team, and within that heck of a build team, it needs women. A woman’s touch is the key to putting the life and soul in any Raider Boat. Trials (and personal experience) have shown that a woman will pay attention to detail, will lay mould atop mould with the deftest of touches. She is all we would trust with rolling resin fibre and she is at the very start of every Raider Boat build. Although all our teams are made up of both the sexes, there are some tasks only a woman can handle.
The tools are specific too, we wouldn’t trust any old thing to handle our unique isothalic gel coats (a barrier to osmosis) and bi-axial cloth, which is stitched to chopped strand mat; making for a lighter, stronger boat that will absorb mechanical shock far better than conventional materials. During lamination, the cloth is overlapped by 8" on the keel and bilges, giving double the thickness and greater strength. The decks are bonded onto a chassis which is also bonded into the hull whilst it is still in the mould. This holds the hull in shape and provides correct stress loading throughout, both prior to being released, and from then on. This unique 'boat with chassis' design gives the boat enormous strength.
We build all Raider Boats by hand. No machine could do what our teams do and no machine could produce the quality, craftsmanship and perfection our teams do. Each dedicated team nurtures the craft from the moment the order arrives, till she is launched. Each member of our teams takes the greatest of pride in what they do – something a machine could never do. They let the Raiders settle between processes, they check each procedure with the attention of Intensive Care nurses and they have the human touch that makes all the difference. |
